Farewell

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends of dance!

The co-production of The.Lab Art & Media GmbH and Norddeutsche Konzertdirektion Melsine Grevesmühl GmbH with DanceWorks Chicago had an excellent start in fall 2009 with our cooperation LOVE HURTS ... PETRUSHKA. After a very successful premiere at Theater im Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen (next to the Opera Cologne the co-producers of our „dancical“) we toured 2009 and 2010 extensively throughout Germany and the Czech Republic.

One critic says: “The wild mix of dance styles which shows you the differences between the areas, intention, technique and music so brilliantly, looks a little bit like the evolution of the Dance: Everything builds on each other. Everything is in relation to each other. It cannot be more innovative and extended on stage. “

Thanks to the huge number of people who believed in us, to our team, to the presenters and – last but not least – to the audience. We say: GOOD BYE PETRUSHKA and hope that we will meet again in the very near future.

The Idea

reakdance, Popping, Locking, Brooklyn Rocking ... Streetdance!!!

Dance is always searching for the next exciting movement and borrows happily from foreign cultures, including Western Pop. It is not surprising that elements of street dance have found their way into contemporary choreographies. Usually this takes the form of “battles” -exciting exhibitions in which the best acrobats fight against each other – from the streets to the stage.

Exactly 100 years ago, in 1909, the ballet world experienced a similar extraordinary injection of young talent from outside the mainstream: Dancers, choreographers, musicians, visual artists, and composers revived ballet with the Ballets Russes in ways previously unimaginable, provoking protests as well as tremendous enthusiasm.

The ballet Petrushka (1911), based on classical 19th century tradition and a Russian version of the commedia dell’arte, provides the framework for Love Hurts…Petrushka where the worlds of street dance and Ballets Russes meet.
